Susi Pudjiastuti was born in 15 January 1965. She is the President Director of PT ASI Pudjiastuti Marine Product, which exports fishery products. In addition, she also leads Susi Air, a regional airline company under PT ASI Pudjiastuti Aviation.
Until 2012, Susi Air owns 32 aircrafts of various types, including the Cessna Grand Caravan, Pilatus PC-06 and Piaggio P180 Avanti. The airline employs almost all foreign pilots, totaling 175 foreigners out of its 180 pilots.
Her background past is not associated with a smooth sailing story. Susi, who posses only middle school education certificate, was forced to discontinue her schooling and started a profession as a fish collector in Pangandaran. She then managed to build her own fish processing plan in 1996.
When her fish processing business expanded to the Asian and American markets, Susi needed an air transportation that is able to fast deliver her lobsters, fishes and other marine products, so that the buyers could received them in a fresh condition.
Supported by Christian von Strombeck, her German husband, Susi then decided to purchase one unit of Cessna Caravan. For the purchase, she borrowed Rp. 20 billion from the bank in 2004. This was the start of her Susi Air business.
In a separate occasion, a practitioner of the fishery and marine sector was surprised by the appointment of Susi Pudjiastuti as a minister handling the marine and fisher affairs. Not only is that Susi a woman, but also because of her professional and hard worker background.
